Symbol: The Cost Saver
When’s the last time you analyzed the cost of your healthcare? Symbol breaks down the difference between a typical insured patient’s out-of-pocket cost to visit the Emergency Room v. an Urgent Care v. a Symbol Clinic.
Clearly see how patient out-of-pocket cost savings are significantly improved with Symbol onsite clinics.
Average Individual Employee Out-of-Pocket Copay for Visit
A typical copay for ER services for an insured patient is $50-$100 which may or may not be waived if you are admitted to the hospital. Without insurance, an ER visit can cost $150-$3,000. Ambulatory care and severity of admission increases these out-of-pocket costs upwards of $20,000+.
The typical copay at urgent care is between $25 and $75, though this depends on your insurance company, who sets the copay amount.
Most Symbol Health Solutions patients incur ZERO copay for acute, chronic condition, well-patient, urgent, or any other kind of medical visit to improve patient adherence to therapeutic prescriptions. Even if a client does establish a small Symbol Clinic copay, out-of-pocket costs rarely exceed $10.
Average Copay for Medications
Among insured workers in plans with three or more tiers of cost sharing for prescription drugs, the average copayments are $11 for first-tier drugs, $33 second-tier drugs, $59 for third-tier drugs, and $105+ for non-preferred brand & generic drugs (tiers 4 & 5) typically unavailable at Symbol Clinics.
Tier-2 drugs include preferred generic medications. This tier consists of medium-cost prescription drugs, most are generic, and some brand-name prescription drugs. This tier is comparable to the medications that are available onsite at Symbol Clinics: generics and some brand-name drugs.
Most Symbol Health Solutions patients incur ZERO copay for the limited formulary of the most common generic, pre-packaged and some brand-name drugs and medical supplies so that we can dispense them onsite for the ultimate convenience of our patients. Some Clinics are contracted to dispense mail-order specialty Tier-4 pharmaceuticals for significant cost-savings.
Average Copay for Vaccinations
Emergency Room departments do not administer vaccines.
Price menus for urgent cares vary greatly, but some of the most common vaccines can cost patients between $50-$250 per injection. Some rarer vaccines (such as those for international travel) can cost around $325+.
Symbol Health Solutions charges ZERO copay for any vaccine. We also charge ZERO for its administration. We regularly supply common vaccines in-stock and onsite such as flu, pneumonia, childhood vaccines, shingles, and more.
Average Patient Cost for Diabetic Supplies
Emergency Room departments do not offer chronic condition management supplies.
The average copay for a glucose meter at an urgent care is around $50. The diabetic test strips on average cost $100 per month when dispensed through an urgent care center.
Symbol Health Solutions charges ZERO for any and all diabetic supplies, no matter the frequency. Our mission is to empower patients to manage, reverse or prevent costly chronic conditions through comprehensive patient-centered care.
Average Patient Cost for Physicals:
Annual Wellness, School, Sports, Camp, DOT, etc.
Emergency Room departments do not offer well-patient services.
The cost of a Comprehensive Physical Exam (New Patient) ranges from $144 to $685, though fees may be closer to $70 for established patients, according to MDsave.
Most Symbol Health Solutions patients incur ZERO copay for well-patient visits, though we often ask new patients to block out a little more time for our first comprehensive examination. Even if a client does establish a small physical copay, out-of-pocket costs rarely exceed $10.
Average Patient Cost for Laboratory Testing/Screening
Diagnostic laboratory testing can measure cells, lipids, proteins, sugars, hormones, and other blood components. Emergency Room fees for lab work varies by test ordered, but inevitably compound ER visit costs.
Depending on the test ordered, lab fees range between $25 – $70 at most urgent care centers.
Symbol Health Solutions patients incur ZERO cost for any bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal or saliva test administered right onsite at the clinic. Most rapid results are available in real time, though some tests may be sent externally for third-party analysis with prompt notification of results in a follow-up call/visit or via secure Patient Portal.
Average Patient Cost for Biometric Screening
Emergency Room department services do not include biometric screening.
Depending on the screening, most urgent care centers charge patients $60 – $150 to identify whether you are at risk for chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension and more.
Symbol Health Solutions patients have ZERO out-of-pocket costs for an all-inclusive screening of blood pressure, body mass index, ASCVD risk, lipid and glucose levels. Our screenings produce results within 10 minutes time so that a Symbol Health Coach can review individual health risks in real time and patients can collaborate with professionals to design a realistic wellness plan to address those specific risks.
Average Patient Cost for Health Coaching
Emergency Room department services do not include personal health coaching or behavioral intervention.
Urgent Care services do not include personal health coaching or behavioral intervention.
Our patients pay NOTHING to collaborate one-on-one with Symbol Health Coaches; registered dietitians, certified fitness trainers, and health educators who help patients establish health goals based on known risks, design personalized lifestyle plans, and help hold them accountable to reach their goals.
